AJE- Fall/ Winter 2010

These aussies apparently know what they’re doing- and I am LOVING it!

They took a whimsical approach to the basic and, dare I say, overdone black and white (I know how blasphemous that sounded- I am a hypocrite and I am ashamed).

But I digress.

Seriously. THIS is my kind sequin and sparkle.

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Ellery Spring/ Summer 2010/2011

Ok, I’m sold. Australia is where it’s at!!

This is another collection from the RAFW (Rosemount Australian Fashion Week).  Kym Ellery’s editorial and styling background is strongly evident as she obviously knows what looks good and what sells.

I really appreciate how these Australian designers blend water influences in their pieces- thats something we dont see much in the states.

Refreshing.

Ksubi Spring/Summer 2010/2011

Yet ANOTHER awesome Australian showing from RAFW.

Founded by a bunch of surfers, Ksubi reeks of sexy androgyny and tons of denim treatments. The collection as a whole could use a bit more sophistication and polishing, but you can’t say its not different!

Looking at defined men who wear their pants low on their hips makes me a little lightheaded. I wouldn’t be able to formulate words around this man. maybe a sound like UNNNNNNFFF.

I LOVE this editorial.

I admittedly am obsessed with models, more imporantly, natalia vodianova.

“Morning Beauty” by Ellen von Unwerth originally published in Vogue Italia (November 2002).

I’ll admit that I’ve been a bit slow on Thakoon. I’ll also admit that may have been because of my rooting for the underdog in tandem to his involvement in The September Issue…

All of that aside, I am impressed by this collection.

Described as being as “a Parisian going to Africa,” Thakoon’s Resort 2011 collection displays trench coats, flirty skirts, flowing dresses paired with a relatively neutral color palette of black, creams, khaki, and muted prints. I could definitely read the Parisian influence in the colors and the structural sophistication, and the African influence in the mixing of fabrics creating a tribal appearance, the prints of pale orange and reds, and the function of the garments. I think the printed fabric of the grouped khaki horizontal stripes underneath the red vertical strips is the best print in his collection- it reads sophisticated tribal. Aside from that fabric, I think he could have pushed the prints more. Having such an artistically rich influence as Africa provides an abundance of pools to choose from.

Overall, great effort!
